World-Class Sailing in the Heart of Western Pomerania! Szczecin Match Race 2026
Lake Dąbie will once again become the arena for fierce competition among the world’s top sailors. From October 8–11, 2026, Szczecin will host the Szczecin Match Race 2026, part of the World Match Racing Tour (WMRT)—the sailing equivalent of the World Cup.
The Szczecin Match Race is one of the most important events on the match racing calendar in our part of Europe. The competition holds WMRT Grade 2 status, which attracts decorated crews from around the world—including the top-ranked sailors in the World Sailing federation—to the capital of Western Pomerania. This event has a long tradition—organized since 2008, it is a key stop on the Polish Match Tour circuit and serves as the Polish Open Match Racing Championship. Both talented Polish crews and international champions will take to the starting line, competing for valuable points toward the World Cup overall standings.
The regatta is held in the unique 1-on-1 format, known as match racing—the most spectacular and dynamic form of competitive sailing, and the very same format used in the legendary America’s Cup. All crews compete on identical, modern RS21 yachts provided by the organizer. Victory is determined not by the equipment, but by skill, perfect tactics, crew coordination, and mastery of the rules. The competition takes the form of direct 1-on-1 duels, and the short, dynamic races lasting about 10 minutes keep the excitement going from start to finish. The regatta consists of a preliminary round (Round Robin), from which the top crews advance to the semifinals and the final.
The event’s base will be located at the modern Sailing Center complex in Szczecin on Przestrzenna Street. Thanks to its proximity to the regatta courses, fans will be able to watch the spectacular duels almost right at their fingertips. We invite all residents of Western Pomerania and water sports enthusiasts to cheer on the world’s best sailors and experience the thrill of competition in the region’s sailing capital!
